PGA Annual Report 2022

Description
Dear Honorable Members, Partners, and Colleagues,
It is a privilege to write these few lines in my new capacity as PGA Secretary-General and to share with you PGA’s 2022 Annual Report.
In an increasingly authoritarian global context, PGA’s role as a vital convener among parliamentarians, and between parliamentarians and civil society, has become even more relevant. Thus, in 2023, we will continue strengthening our current partnerships, create new ones, and better utilize the mosaic of national, regional and global stakeholders, including UN agencies and the private sector, to connect, empower and inspire our member-parliamentarians to effect change in their communities. It is key that ownership of national initiatives remain in parliamentarians’ hands to re-build trust and accountability in institutions, particularly the legislatures.
Allow me to express my appreciation to Dr. David Donat Cattin, PGA’s outgoing Secretary-General, for his visionary leadership. We are energized about the fight for democracy, civil society’s resilience in the face of repressive governments and violence and increased multilateral cooperation, including in our fight against climate change. We reaffirm our commitment to play our part, assisting parliamentarians in building societies that guarantee the enjoyment of human rights for all individuals, in peace and with dignity.
Join us in this noble task and in forging new paths to contribute to the creation of a rules-based international order for a more equitable, safe, sustainable and democratic world.
¡Muchas gracias!
Mónica Adame
Secretary-General (2023-2025)
