Despite the fact that women only represent about 5% of all death row inmates, it is essential to take measures to guarantee that women do not face gender discrimination in the application of the death penalty.

Despite the fact that women only represent about 5% of all death row inmates, it is essential to take measures to guarantee that women do not face gender discrimination in the application of the death penalty and that they are provided with a fair treatment in full respect of international human rights.

Parliamentarians, in their roles as the lawmakers, are the ones best placed to promote gender equality in all areas of their work and propose gender-sensitive legislation. Lobbying or advocating with parliamentarians is a concrete step towards changing country or regional policy.
