PGA Member Dip. Víctor Bisonó Authors Legislation to Penalize the Manufacture of prohibited Biological, Chemical & Nuclear WMDs in the Dominican Republic

PGA congratulates PGA Executive Committee Member and Deputy Convenor of PGA International Peace and Security Program, Dip. Víctor Bisonó for his Draft Bill of Legislation which seeks to amend Law No. 36 of 1965 of the Dominican Republic on Firearms.

This Draft Bill of Legislation, for the first time, introduces specific penalties/punishments for manufacture of Biological, Chemical and Nuclear weapons/WMDs, as prohibited by the Dominican Republic. 

Under the draft Bill, amending Law No. 36 of 1965, which now has full consensus in the Congress of the Dominican Republic and regarding which the Government of the Dominican Republic has indicated is a priority for adoption this year, the illegal manufacture of weapons, devices or accessories for chemical, biological, radioactive weapons or substances and materials for the preparation thereof, shall be punishable with a maximum penalty of eight to twelve years in prison, together with a substantial financial fine as well as the seizure of all means and movable and immovable property used for manufacturing of such weapons. 

In addition, individuals found to have  manufactured ammunition poisoned with chemical or physical products or any toxic substance, will be liable to a prison sentence of three to five years.
