PGA Congratulates Government of Guinea Bissau on becoming 99th State Party to the Arms Trade Treaty on 22nd October, 2018
PGA wishes to warmly congratulate PGA Executive Committee Member Hon. Dr. Suzy Barbosa MP for her considerable and central efforts over a two year period in advocating for and achieving this notable success, including approval of the ATT by the National Assembly of Guinea Bissau in July 2018.
Together with the National Assembly of Guinea Bissau, PGA held a 2 Day Workshop on 22-23 October entitled Promoting Improved Compliance with the UN Program of Action Addressing The Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons and Promoting Greater Participation by Women Parliamentarians in Parliamentary Defence, Security and Interior Committees
I am pleased to hear of this important development resulted from a positive synergy between the Executive and Legislative Branches in Guinea-Bissau. For a long time in Bissau, we looked at individual actions and accomplishments, but I am pleased to see this development as a result of a collective effort. In coordination with the realization of this important Workshop, organized by PGA and hosted by the National Popular Assembly, I welcome the news of the deposit of the Instrument of Ratification of the Arms Trade Treaty, and congratulate my colleagues in the Parliament for a prompt approval, as well as in the Government for a swift deposit at the UN, on the occasion of this Workshop.
