Stockholm, Sweden April 23-25, 2014

The Sixth International Parliamentarians’ Conference on the Implementation of the International Conference on Population and Development Program of Action (IPCI/ICPD) begins on April 23rd in Stockholm, Sweden to promote dialogue among parliamentarians from all regions of the world on the implementation of the 1994 ICPD Program of Action, with a view to achieving further commitment to collective action in the areas of resource mobilization and the creation of an enabling policy environment for population and development.

The Sixth IPCI/ICPD conference marked the 20th anniversary of the ICPD and the end of the original Cairo mandate. Despite the passage of time, the Cairo Program of Action has proved to remain relevant and still resonates today as it did in 1994. Efforts should be redoubled to promote its visionary recommendations in any future development framework, as has already been done with the Millennium Development Goals.

The Conference produced the Stockholm Statement of Commitment building upon previous IPCI Commitments and serves as a launching pad for the second phase of the Cairo Program providing parliamentarians with a chance to consider strategic actions needed to significantly boost the implementation of the ICPD mandate in their countries.

If you are a PGA Member and attended the Conference, we will be delighted to hear your experience and share it on our website.
