Palestine accedes to the Second Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, aiming at the abolition of the death penalty (ICCPR-OP2)
On 18 March 2019, the State of Palestine acceded to the ICCPR-OP2, which entails an obligation to abolish the death penalty. It is impossible to withdraw from the ICCPR-OP2, which makes abolition irreversible. This decision was warmly welcomed by PGA Members from Lebanon, Morocco and Tunisia.
This positive development is very encouraging for all of us advocating for the abolition of the death penalty in the region. Hon. Zohour el Wahabi, Member of the House of Representatives of Morocco, member of the Justice, Legislation and Human Rights Committee, PGA Member
