The State of Palestine is de facto abolitionist, having carried out no execution since 2002. In the Gaza strip however, capital punishment is still in use. In 2018, the de facto administration sentenced to death 13 individuals; however, for the first time since 2015 they did not carry out any execution. The State of Palestine ratified the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) in 2014 and its Second Optional Protocol aiming at the abolition of the death penalty (ICCPR-OP2) in 2019.
