Gender Bill Presented to Aro Bockarie
The Sierra Leone Female Parliamentary Caucus and other notable Women’s Groups have last week presented to the Deputy Justice Minister Aro Bockarie, the draft of a Gender Equality Bill.
Hon. Bernadette Lahai of the opposition SLPP described the Bill as a milestone in the country’s aspirations to empower women and achieve the Millennium Development Goal No. 3.
She said the low participation of women in governance affects their positive contributions to national development. She highlighted of how cultural and traditional practices, gender-based intimidation and other negative attitudes were impeding the progress of women achieving gender equality.
