On July 6-7, PGA organized a National Parliamentary Session in collaboration with the Parliament of Trinidad and Tobago and with the kind support of Global Affairs Canada. The primary focus of the session was to promote the ratification of the Amendment to the Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Material (ACPPNM) and the International Convention for the Suppression of Acts of Nuclear Terrorism (ICSANT) in Trinidad and Tobago. The session convened 9 Members of the Parliament of Trinidad and Tobago, as well as participant observers from Barbados, Grenada, St Lucia, and Suriname.

During the National Parliamentary Session, participants had the opportunity to benefit from two video presentations. Mr. Jonathan Herbach, Legal Officer, Nuclear and Treaty Law Section, Office of Legal Affairs, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and Ms. Francesca Andrian, Program Officer, CBRN Terrorism Prevention, Division for Treaty Affairs, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), delivered presentations on the ACPPNM and ICSANT respectively. These presentations highlighted the numerous benefits of accession to these two treaties, emphasizing their paramount importance in ensuring nuclear and radiological security.

On July 7th, 2023, Senator Wade Mark, Chair of PGA National Group in the Parliament of Trinidad and Tobago, participated in bilateral briefings with Ms. Francesca Andrian, Program Officer, CBRN Terrorism Prevention, Division for Treaty Affairs, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), and Dr. Joy St. John, Executive Director, Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA).

In the following days, the Port of Spain Plan of Action, which outlines concrete steps that parliamentarians can take towards the ratification/accession to the two international treaties, was shared with the participants before being adopted.
