PGA Congratulates Government of Namibia on its Ratification of the Arms Trade Treaty

PGA wishes to congratulate the Government of Namibia on its Ratification of the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT). On 28th April, 2020, Namibia deposited its Instrument of Ratification to the ATT with the UN Secretary-General in New York, thereby becoming the 106th State Party to the ATT.

PGA has been pleased to work with its Membership in Namibia, commencing in 2013, in promoting signature, and now ratification of the ATT.  Notably, from 7-8 March 2013, in Windhoek, Namibia at the National Assembly of Namibia, PGA organized a Regional Parliamentary Workshop on “Addressing the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons and Supporting an Arms Trade Treaty – The Role of Parliamentarians”. PGA extends appreciation to Hon. Evelyn Nawases-Taeyele, MP, Chair of Legal and Constitutional Affairs Committee who very ably chaired and facilitated this Regional Africa Workshop.

PGA has also been pleased to support Namibia through subsequent outreach and advocacy efforts by PGA Membership in Namibia in 2016.
