Parliamentarians for Global Action was founded in 1978 to ensure representatives elected by their people participated in international forums dedicated to the most pressing human rights issues and could, upon returning to their countries, share their learning and best practices with their peers and take action to improve their communities at large. Through almost five decades, our network has been nurtured by parliamentarians’ experiences and a firm conviction in the need to promote international human rights law and multilateral cooperation.
We are living through an unprecedented shift in the international affairs order, one that attacks the underpinnings of the system established after World War II to protect freedoms and dignity for all human beings. In this context, we join dozens of other civil society organizations in solidarity and express deep sadness and disappointment at the U.S. State Department’s decision to terminate funding to PGA and so many other global organizations furthering human rights and humanitarian work.
While this presents undeniable challenges to our work in the Democracy, Gender and Inclusion, and International Peace and Security Programs, our commitment to our mission of mobilizing parliamentarians to advance human rights for all, democracy, and a sustainable world, and to the allies who stand with us, remains unwavering.
For years, we have worked tirelessly to enable spaces for dialogue between parliamentarians and civil society representatives to learn their lived realities, ensuring that voices are heard, rights are upheld, and concrete actions are taken toward a more just, safe, and inclusive world. Though funding may shift, our dedication to these values does not.
To our allies, partners, and supporters — we see you, we value you, and we will continue to stand with you.
To our network of parliamentarians, we continue walking by your side, forging stronger collaborations, and pressing forward with the same passion and purpose that have always defined our work.
We remain steadfast. We remain united. We remain committed to furthering the values and precepts that enable a peaceful, thriving society and a healthy, flourishing planet.
