PGA congratulates Chad on ratifying the Arms Trade Treaty

PGA congratulates its National Group in Chad for its tireless efforts over the past years which made an important contribution leading to the deposit on March 25th, 2015 of the Instrument of Ratification of the Arms Trade Treaty by the Government of Chad at the United Nations in New York.

I am delighted to hear that the Government of Chad deposited its Instrument of Ratification of the Arms Trade Treaty with the United Nations in New York on 25th March, 2015, becoming the 65th State Party to the ATT. In close consultation with the PGA Secretariat in New York, I have been actively advocating for a number of years for the adoption, signature and, now, the ratification of this crucial treaty with key Government officials in my country. At a time of conflict-type tensions on our national borders concerning Boko Haram, this could not have happened at a better moment. I will continue to advocate for the ATT's full implementation in my country and would like to take this opportunity to congratulate and encourage the Chadian government to fully implement the ATT provisions. I urge all countries, in Africa and beyond, that have not yet done so, to ratify and implement the ATT. PGA Member, Hon. Théophile M. Yombombe commented from N'Djamena.
